CHARLES ROY MURRAY

October 27, 1943 ~ May 2, 2022 (age 78) 78 Years Old

Tribute

Charles “Chick” Murray Sr. 78 of Naples, Florida died at home on May 2, 2022.

Charles was born on October 27, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles I. and Thelma Murray. Charles was a mechanic responsible for airframe repair in the United States Air Force. He then went on to have an apprenticeship with the Local 13 Boilermakers Union in Philadelphia. He shared this brotherhood with his father Charles, brother Roy and son Charlie. He had a strong work ethic and was dedicated to his craft. Charles worked in the field as a foreman, he was a business agent and he ultimately became a respected superintendent. Charles married Judith R. Sabatino on September 19, 1970. They resided in Delanco, New Jersey for 34 years. They took an early retirement, moving to paradise in Marco Island, Florida, and in recent years, to Naples.

Charles had a quick wit and sense of humor. He used it daily, through all the peaks and valleys of his life. He definitely knew how to make you laugh and if you spent time with him you were in for a good time! Charles had many nicknames: Skipper, Murray, Chick and Bug. You could tell how someone knew him by the name they used. Charles was the kind of person that you wanted as a friend. He was loyal, fun-loving, generous and dependable. He valued his relationships; from the cherished friends of his youth, to his beloved family, to his union brothers, and all the friends he has made in Florida.

He was a loyal Philadelphia sports fan; he especially loved The Eagles and Flyers. Whenever he had the chance Charles spent time being outdoors each day. He took pride in caring for his property, appreciated nature and took time for quiet moments. His hobbies included boating, fishing, playing cards and chess. He loved to swim and enjoyed taking a dip after a hard day’s work. On any given day, you could find Charles sitting outside enjoying the sun in a lounge chair or rocking chair. He and Judith had
many adventures traveling around the world before and after their retirement.

Charles was preceded in death by his father, Charles and his mother, Thelma. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Judith, his two admiring children, Kathleen (Brian) Murray-McNulty (Cinnaminson, NJ), Charles (Tina) Murray Jr. (Delran, NJ) and his three adoring grandsons, Evan, Ryan and Greyson. His sister Patricia (Bill) Morrison and brother Roy (Linda) Murray, as well as many nieces and nephews.
