May 19, 1934 ~ November 28, 2021 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Tribute

Connie Kay Brorson, 87, passed away on November 28, 2021 in Naples FL. She was the wife of Carl Brorson. They shared 62 years of marriage together in San Diego CA, Hinsdale IL, Bloomington IN, and Naples FL.
Connie was born in 1934, in Rushville IN. She was the daughter of Ferrel and Bertha Conover. After graduating from high school in Rushville, she attended college at Depauw College in Greencastle IN, Hanover College in Hanover IN, and graduated from Ball State College in Muncie IN with a BA in Art History. After college she moved to San Diego where she met Carl. They married in 1959. After 12 years in San Diego, the family moved to Hinsdale IL. She was employed at Monticello of Hinsdale assisted living facility where she worked as an activities director for almost a dozen years. She helped found the Illinois chapter of the National Association of Activities Professionals and ran a successful convention for the group in Chicago in 1987. She also led Monticello residents every year to create floats for Hinsdale’s 4th of July parade. The floats were decorated with tissue-paper flowers that the residents made, and won 1st or 2nd prize many years.
After retirement in 1991, she and Carl moved to Bloomington IN where she soon made many friends and took up Watercolor painting. Her watercolor paintings were a way of sharing her imagination and joy of life with others. With bold colors and curving lines, she painted swaying forms to represent a familiar image in a whimsical way. Her goal was to capture cheerful and often humorous spontaneity in her paintings. She was a member of the Bloomington Watercolor Society and the Watercolor Society of Indiana, and displayed her works in museums, official buildings and various art galleries.
She and Carl were popular residents at Bloomington’s Meadowood retirement home in the 2010’s, where she made many friends and continued watercolor paintings.
The last two years of her life were in Naples FL, where she moved to be close to her son Kurt. Although the pandemic prevented her from enjoying all the amenities that Southwest Florida has to offer, she loved living in her own condo with Carl and having Kurt a 10-minute drive away. Despite the difficult times, she was able to enjoy some of the local dining establishments, especially on the waterfront in Capri and Marco Island which she loved.
She will be remembered for her persistence mixed with kindness. She always was loyal to her cousins in Indiana despite where she lived, helping them organize family reunions. She is survived by Carl, and two sons: Stuart of Arlington, Mass, and Kurt, of Naples.
A memorial service will held on Dec 10, 2021 at 11:00 at Fuller Funeral Home East Naples, with interment at a later date at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego CA.
Memorial donations may be made to the Laughlin Family Fund at the Rush County Community Foundation (117 N. Main St. Rushville, IN, 46173). This fund supports a monetary award for outstanding first-year teachers in Rush County Indiana, Connie’s birth place.
