Colonel David R. Elliott of Naples died January 16, 2023. He was 83 years old. A native of Massachusetts he resided in South Weymouth and graduated from Thayer Academy. Col. Elliott graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1961 majoring in Civil Engineering. He obtained a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University in Personnel Management. He was a professional soldier in the U.S. Army, twice decorated for heroism and wounded in combat in Vietnam where he commanded paratroops. Col. Elliott served 30 years in the US Army at all levels from battery to Headquarters, Department of the Army in Washington D.C. Colonel Elliott’s over 25 decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal of Heroism (3 oak leaf cluster & “V” device), the Purple Heart, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for Heroism. He then was a Human Resources Manager for Inland Paperboard and Packaging and later moved to Naples, FL in 2000. Col Elliott is a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Military Officers Assoc. of SW Florida, the Elliot Clan Society, and the Military Officers Assoc. of America. He was married to the former Judith McKeag for 55 years. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. visiting family and friends, traveling to other countries, working on family Genealogy, taking German classes, and participating in many church functions. He is survived by his wife Judith and three sons: Douglas, Donald, and Robert; also eight grandchildren, a niece and nephew. Col. Elliott is preceded in death by his parents and sister. He has been cremated and his remains to be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery. Services to be held at Grace Lutheran Church, Naples, FL.
