October 11, 1926 ~ April 7, 2021 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

On April 7, 2021, Edmund Francis Piela, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at the age of 94 in Naples, Florida.
Edmund was born on October 11, 1926 in Monmouth, ME to John and Katherine (Plossay) Piela. Following his service in the United States Navy, Edmund was a 1949 graduate of the University of Maine with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Edmund's life-long career was with Hamilton Standard (now Raytheon Technologies) starting out as an engineer and rising to Program Manager and ultimately Manager of Programs.
For over 50 years, Edmund was married to his beautiful wife Helen (Pescik), an elementary school teacher from Manchester CT. Together they raised five children in Manchester before moving to South Windsor, CT to enjoy a newly built and much bigger home for their family. Following retirement, Edmund and Helen moved to Naples, Florida where they enjoyed all the activities that retirement living in Florida can offer. Edmund especially enjoyed having his brother Erv as a close neighbor in Naples. Together for many years, they frequently fished the waters of Naples, hunting for the tasty sheepshead fish with their “top secret bait”. Decades of summer seasons were spent with their children, and hosting extended family, at their treasured lakefront cottage in the Berkshires on Big Pond in Otis, MA. Edmund and Helen traveled extensively and often, with visits to faraway lands including a several-months-long Cruise Around The World, bringing home souvenirs, pictures and stories to last a lifetime. Camping excursions to Nova Scotia shared with his sister Carol and other family members were among Edmund's most treasured memories.
Edmund was predeceased by his wife Helen, his sister Jane and his brother Erv. He leaves behind his sister Carol (Ron) Collins of Windsor, CT, his sister-in-law Lois Piela of Naples, his children Michael Piela and Daniel (LouAnn) Piela of Naples, David (Linda) Piela of Springfield, MA, Theresa (Craig) Smith of Lebanon, CT and Katherine Wippert of Westfield, MA, ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Due to Covid concerns, a private Memorial Services will be held at a future date. Donations in Edmund's memory can be made online to AVOW Hospice of Naples at avowcares.org.
