Eugene Edward Sherry, 92, died on Friday, February 5, 2021 at home in Naples, Fl. He is reunited in heaven with his infant daughter Mary Ann, his parents James and Margaret Sherry, and a brother James. He was born on November 28, 1928 in Chicago, IL and in 1951 married Maureen Gaynor. Gene was a serviceman in the Naval Reserves during the Korean War. Professionally, Gene worked as a Data Operations Supervisor for 35 years at Clark Equipment. In addition, Gene served as a certified Illinois High School Sports Official for 37 years and was inducted into the Central Officials Association of Chicago Hall of Fame in 1997. Gene, was a kind, hardworking, fun loving, family man who lived in Chicago Ridge, Il, Orland Park Il., and retired in Naples, Fl. All these places were highlighted by the many friendships he made and enjoyed. Gene was an avid golfer and an active parishioner of the catholic church, serving as an usher, eucharistic minister, St. Vincent DePaul Society member, and Knights of Columbus Member. Gene is survived by his loving wife of 70 years Maureen and his children James (Lynn) Sherry, Jane (Rick) McGinn, John (Eileen) Sherry, Mike (Jennifer) Sherry, Tom (Betsy Szabla) Sherry, and Gene Sherry. He enjoyed spending time with his twelve grandchildren James (Laura) Sherry, Christopher Sherry, Timothy (Chrissy) Sherry, Aaron Matthews, Meghan (Beth Shimkat) McGinn, Molly (Derrick) Nosal, Julie Sherry, Michael (Eliza Bangert) Sherry, Rene, Ronnie, Michael Szabla, Emily Szabla and 10 great grandchildren who will miss his smile and playfulness. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 18, 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Memorial donations may be made in Gene's name to the St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Elizabeth Seton Church.
