John H. Anderson, 74, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2022 while surrounded by family at his winter home in Naples, FL.
He is survived by his loving wife Carol, children Jeff (Debbie) Anderson, Susan (Dan) Dubeck, and grandchildren Daniel, Charles, and Jane Anderson, David, Anthony, Lucille, and Joseph Dubeck. He is also survived by his sister, Mary (Roger) Siwajek, Carol’s five siblings, many cherished nieces and nephews and the mother of his children, Denise Anderson. He was preceded in death by his son David.
John was born in Detroit and graduated from Austin Catholic Prep (Class of ’65) and the University of Detroit (Class of ‘69) where he was a member of Theta Xi fraternity.
He started his career as an elementary school teacher and became a Parks and Recreation professional serving the communities of Rochester, Northville and Troy. Upon retirement he and Carol relocated to Petoskey, where he spent his days golfing, biking, and entertaining family and friends. He was fond of saying that every day spent in Petoskey was “just another day in paradise”.
In 2018, John was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease with no known cure. In accordance with his wishes, his body will be donated to the University of Miami Medical School in hopes to further scientific research of the disease.
In lieu of an immediate funeral service, the family is planning a celebration of life in the summer of 2022 when it is safer to gather. Memories can be shared with the family c/o the Fuller Funeral Home website www.fullereast.com.
