James Richard Rogers

James (Jim) Richard Rogers of Naples, FL and Beulah, MI died on April 29. 2022, at the Barrington Terrace of Naples. Jim was born in Detroit, MI on June 3, 1933, son of Earl F. and Mabel B. Rogers. He graduated from Cass Technical High School (Detroit) and Olivet College (Olivet, MI), where he met his wife to be, Mary Saunders. The couple was married at Central Methodist church Detroit in 1955.

At Olivet, Jim was a member of the Art Students’ League. His talents led to a career as a commercial artist and illustrator for 10 years at Brown Art and 30 years at Ford Motor Company where he illustrated automobile brochures by hand, prior to the onset of electronic illustration. He retired in 1996.

Jim was a past member of Covenant Baptist church (Detroit), Redford United Methodist church (Detroit), and attended North Naples church. He was a member of Livonia United Lodge #152 Fraternal Order of Masons.

Jim was an avid boater and sailor. He enjoyed sharing excursions on Lake Michigan and Platte Lake (MI). Jim and Mary began wintering in Naples in 1998. Many wonderful friendships were formed over the years, both in northern Michigan and Naples, FL.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patricia A. Milner (Livingston, TX). He is survived by his wife Mary (Naples, FL) son Randy and son-in-law David Johnston (Houston, TX), son Kevin Rogers (Gary, IN), brother-in-law Charles Milner and family (Seattle, WA and Katy, TX).

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the Platte Lake Improvement Association, an organization that provides custodial service to the health and well-being of Platte Lake (www.plattelake.org).

The family also thanks all the caring and loving staff at the Barrington Terrace of Naples.
