Jean Weidle

May 16, 1929 ~ May 26, 2021 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

WEIDLE,  Jean M. (nee Harris), 92, of Naples,  FL., (by way of midwest: St. Louis, Kansas City, Chicago) most gently did leave us, May 26, '21, under devoted hospice care at her home in Discovery Village, Naples; and surrounded by her surviving children, daughter Jeanne (James) and sons Tom (Katie) and Jim. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Weidle and her son, William T. Weidle, Jr. (Diane).

Jean lived a long life of robust vitality and goodwill, befriending many. Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Mother, she volunteered homemade cupcakes and lemonade for her boys' Little League Baseball games. Jean also worked in quality control at Sara-Lee Foods and Dayton Electric, both in the Chicago suburb of Northbrook; as well as a Dress Buyer at Jones Store of Kansas City.

Upon retirement, Jean spearheaded the move with husband Bill to warm, sunny Florida from cold, windy Chicago. First locating on Marco Island, then the mainland Community of Naples' own Falling Waters, a brief stay at Alliance in Deland, Jean spent her final years at Discovery Village.

Born of hearty Southern Illinois farming stock, her father, Lowell Harris, was said to have dug by hand a full basement beneath the family dwelling at 4745 Kensington Place, in the Cathedral Basilica Parish of St. Louis, Mo., where Jean graduated from Rosati-Kane Catholic high school. She then briefly attended Webster College before entering her 71-year marriage to spouse William T. Weidle, (d. 2018).

Well to note: concurrent with a sweeping, mid-90's metro-St. Louis redevelopment campaign in which the erstwhile family homestead on Kensington Way was leveled, effectively filling in the spirited,  long-ago hand-dug basement, Jean successfully embarked upon a 25-plus year run of Floridian Paradise. Coincidence? Are you entirely sure?

Relocated to south Florida, Jean quickly achieved a certain mastery of the Chinese game of Mahjong; also becoming a delightfully cunning casino enthusiast.

Grandmother of Matthew (Meagan), Dan (Raquel), and Michael Weidle.  Jason and Kevin (Natasha) Ott. K.C. (Rafael) Guttierrez). Ben and Tommy Weidle.  Great Grandmother of Henry, Ben, Thomas, Evelyn, Jackson and Elodie.

Jean will be greatly missed by all; including her dear friends at Discovery and fellow parishioners at St. Peters.  And let's not forget the various gambling tables, most notably Beau Rivage Resort & Casino at Biloxi, MS., where Jean got Bill to cut loose a time or two.

A Funeral Mass will be held on August 6th at St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Naples, Fl at 2:00 pm.
