John H Gardiner, Sr, 78, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully at Avow Hospice of Naples on Sunday, Feb 26, 2023. John was born on April 22, 1944, in Providence, RI. John was the son of the late Charles H Gardiner and Eleanor (Ward) Gardiner. He is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Dykas) Gardiner of 43 years. He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy (John) Podgwaite of Cheshire, CT, and survived by his brother William C(Jennifer) Gardiner of Yarmouth, ME. He was the beloved father of a daughter, Eleanor(Kenneth) LaLonde of Naples, FL, son, John H Gardiner, Jr of Atlanta, GA, Lori Bouchard of Naples, FL and Arthur(Sherry) Bouchard of Cranston, RI. John leaves behind 2 Grandsons, Nicholas and Noah LaLonde, a Granddaughter, Tiffany Bouchard, and Great Grandson, Everett LaLonde. He also leaves behind several Nieces and Nephews.
John graduated from Bryant College in 1966 and then went into the family insurance and real estate business (Gardiner and Whitely) in Pawtucket, RI. He was very active in many organizations and was the past President of The Children’s Museum of RI which started its endowment fund in the 1980s. He loved boating, spending summers in Newport, RI, and at the East Greenwich Yacht Club.
In 1994 he retired and moved to Naples, FL, where he started his own Real Estate and Seasonal Rental business. While enjoying FL, He became an avid golfer, joining the Classics Golf and Country Club of Lely Resort, where he has been a member for many years. One of his favorite places to spend the summers was Barefoot Golf and Resort in North Myrtle Beach, where they could enjoy the best of both beach and golfing.
A private service will be held for the immediate family and a Celebration of Life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Avow Hospice (1005 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL, 34105) or to Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (681 4th Ave N, Naples, FL, 34102).
