John was born in Miami, FL to Mercedes Walling and David Wilbur Wheeler. John moved to Naples, FL when he was nine years old. He graduated from Naples High School in 1994, where he met many lifelong friends. After high school he attended the Johnson & Wales University in Miami, then years later he continued his education at Lorenzo Walker Technical College receiving his LPN license.
John’s true joy is his two daughters, Madison and McKenzie Peacock. The girls brought him so much happiness and pride. He was their biggest supporter, always urging them to be all that they can be. He enjoyed taking them to Disney World, Universal Studios, and Busch Gardens, even as adults. They spent a lot of time doing things they enjoyed, including going to Halloween Horror nights, trips to Las Vegas, 4-wheeling adventures, and many trips to Nashville, TN to spend quality with them, after they relocated. He loved making fun memories, not only with his two daughters but always included their younger brother and sister, Chase and Maryssa Hood.
John was a partner at Sexy Shoes for over four years. He worked diligently to build the business and the brand, many clients enjoyed and appreciated his customer service. He brought humor, great communication, and a strong ethic for building partnerships. John truly excelled at making the customer experience the best at Sexy Shoe. His partner and one of his best friends, Scott Gidlow, and the rest of the Sexy Shoe staff and customers, will miss his light-hearted approach, his dedication, and his positive outlook. Sexy Shoes was something he was extremely passionate about.
For the past few years, he has been the primary caretaker for his parents, Mercedes Walling and David W. Wheeler; he loved his parents wholeheartedly. John wore many hats in his adult life and never complained. His goal was to make everyone around him joyful, laugh at his silly jokes, and put a smile on your face.
John had many passions in life, not only did he love going to theme parks and having fun with the kids, he enjoyed attending sporting events and concerts. He always loved a good baseball game, the Marlins were his favorite, and watching the Dolphins on football Sundays with his father, David W. Wheeler. John was always up for any adventure – his spontaneous and energetic perspective was contagious and one of the brightest parts of being in his presence; he was “one-in-a-million”!
John had so many friends – he was the funniest, warmest, most genuine person you would ever meet. He would give you the shirt off his back, his last dollar, and his time without thinking about himself. He filled up a room with heartfelt love, he welcomed every person he met into his life - John did not know a stranger.
He will be so greatly missed!
He is survived by his loving daughters, Madison and McKenzie Peacock, his parents, Mercedes Walling and David Wilbur Wheeler, his brothers, David John Wheeler and Billy Hoskins, his Uncle Henry Walling, and his life partner, Laura Lee Luft and by his niece Ashley Lynn Wheeler and nephew John David Wheeler.

John is preceded in death by his grandmother Mercedes Skinner, grandfather Juan Walling, stepmother Teresa Wheeler, and stepsister Yolanda Hoskins.
Please consider honoring John today and every day, by making someone laugh, by being generous, and by remembering his infectious smile and laughter and paying it forward; it’s your treat.
