Joy Hoffman, 96, passed away peacefully at her home at Tuscany Villa in Naples on October 24, 2022. Joy was born on May 20, 1926 in Menomonie, WI, the daughter of William and Myrtle Shurson. She relocated to Mankato, Minnesota while still a baby and grew up there. It was in Mankato, that she met the love of her life, Bob Hoffman. They were high school sweethearts. Just after graduation, Bob was drafted into the Army to serve during WWII and Joy moved to Washington, DC and worked as a “Government Girl”. After the war, they were wed and had three children in Mankato, relocated to Dayton, Ohio, had five more children and finally settled in Naples, FL in 1968. Joy’s main profession was “MOM” to her eight children, she enjoyed spending time with her large family and instilled those values to each of her kids. Joy also spent time working part-time for the Collier County Clerk’s office and Collier County Public Schools.
She was also a “Statement Lady” at First National Bank of Naples. Even though Joy raised her eight kids with a stern grip, she also had a quick smile and a memorable laugh! Joy loved playing games, especially cards and bingo, and she always had a puzzle book close by. Joy enjoyed the last few years as a member of the Tuscany Villa family, where she was cared for by many amazing people who cared for her not only with their kind hands, but with their loving hearts.
Joy was predeceased by her parents, brother Duane, two sons, Tom and Jim and also her soulmate, Bob. She is survived by her brother, Bob and his family, six children, Sue, Pam, Dan, Ann, Patsy and Peggie as well as 20 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren (a fifth to be born this week). We will always remember Mom with a smile on our face knowing that she and Dad are now dancing again.
Visitation and a service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 29th, from 2 - 4 PM at the Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail E., Naples, FL 34112. Those who wish to remember Joy in a special way, may make gifts in her memory payable to the Tuscany Villa Employee Appreciation Fund – 8901 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34113.
