Julie Ann “Julia” Schmidt 91 of Naples Florida passed away on February 11, 2023, at The Arlington Retirement Community where she resided the last years of her life. She was born on October 20, 1931, in Benton, IL to Mary and Charles Popovich who were born in Hust Czechoslovakia. Julie Ann grew up in Benton, IL with her two sisters; Helen Shanley of Dothan, AL and Mary “Madda” Moss of Alford, FL. Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life surrounded by the love of her parents, sisters, many Aunts, Uncle and cousins. Julie Ann often recalled those beautiful times.
Earlier in her life, Julie Ann worked at Northwestern University and lived in Evanston, IL. She was widowed by her first husband Robert “Bob” Williams in 1966. Julie Ann later remarried Christian “Dutch” Schmidt on April 13, 1971, together they lived in Wilmette, IL. Once retired Julie Ann and “Dutch” traveled, spent time in the sunshine and lived by the water in Newport Beach, CA, Fort Lauderdale, FL and lastly Marco Island, FL.
Julie Ann is pre deceased by her husband “Dutch” (2000), her parents and her two sisters. She is survived by her two nieces Beverly Schneider of Dothan, AL and Mary Catherine Roberts of Elk Grove Village, IL and many close cousins.
Julie Ann was loved by so many friends and family. She was a favorite cousin and Aunt to many. She was loving, compassionate and very generous to her whole family. She touched so many lives in so many different ways. She lived a beautiful life.
Julie Ann was so thankful for the excellent care she received from Attentive Nursing Care in her last years of her life. The family would like to thank a long list of comforting caretakers from Attentive Nursing Care that were true blessings in Julie Ann’s life. They are Susan, Rhonda, Anna, Lisa, Debbie, Amie and Lynell. Our hearts are forever grateful for your loving care.
Julie Ann will be laid to rest at Marco Lutheran Church in Marco Island, FL. At a later time a celebration of Julie Ann’s life and memory will be held at The Arlington in Naples, Florida.
