Tribute

Lois Mains, a resident of Lely Palms in Naples, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2022.  She was 95 years old. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Lois was born in Hamilton, Ohio, to Louise Rohlfs Smith and Clifford Smith.  She graduated from Hamilton High School and worked for Hamilton Tool Company in the payroll department.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Paul Smith, and her sister Ruth Smith Hutfles.

In 1948 she married Robert R. Mains, her best friend and the love of her life. They were married for 54 years before he preceded her in death in 2003. Lois enjoyed being a homemaker after the birth of her daughter, Vicky, and was the primary caregiver to her mother.  She moved to Marion, Indiana in 1962, and was active in her church and community activities.  She sang in the choir at the First Christian Church and participated in many of their outreach programs, including Kids Hope and the Grant County Rescue Mission.  She enjoyed reading, sewing, dancing, cake decorating, and making candy.  She participated in several Bible Study groups and was an instructor for the Bethel Bible Program.  She and her husband were active volunteers with the Grant County United Way Meals on Wheels Program. They loved to travel and had friends all over the country. Lois will be especially remembered for her sunny smile and enveloping hugs.

Lois loved spending time with her family, who fondly referred to her as Gramy. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Lee Mains Jones (husband Mike) of Naples, Florida. She has three grandchildren, Colleen Louise Jones Bible (husband Paul) of Brownsburg, Indiana, Erin Marie Jones Shaver (husband Lee) of Clermont, Florida, and Kevin Michael Jones (wife Nichole) of Fowler, Indiana.  She also has five great-grandsons, Sean and Aidan Shaver, Phillip and Jason Bible, and Harrison Jones. They all loved their Gramy and will miss her very much.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at First Christian Church, 1970 North Wabash Road, Marion, Indiana.  Visitation will be at 10:00, followed by a 10:30 service at the church and interment at Grant Memorial Park.
