Tribute

Louise “Weezie” Seyffer Kane passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, October, 2, 2023, in Naples, Florida. Born to Kenneth and Lolita Seyffer in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on July 13, 1948, Weezie embraced her life with boundless energy and unbridled optimism. A graduate of the Emma Willard School and Briarcliff College, she also was selected to study in England as part of the English Speaking Union student exchange program. She then pursued a career in cartography with the Central Intelligence Agency and later with the city of Hartford, Connecticut.

Weezie’s devotion to her husband, Ed, and friends both new and old, was unwavering. Together in retirement, they welcomed new arrivals and stayed in touch with old ones as they split their time between homes in Naples and Richmond, Virginia. Weezie’s culinary flair and love for entertaining created memorable dinner parties wherever they lived.

She is survived by her husband, Edward H. Kane, and her children, C. Jeffers Schmidt and Lolita “Lollie” Kingsbury Schmidt Lawson, and two granddaughters, Carter and Marian Schmidt, all of Richmond. Weezie also is survived by three sisters, Laura Dorman of Glen Ellen, California, Katherine Opdycke of Richmond, and Virginia Lewis of Carson City, Nevada.
