Lucy Ann Early

October 27, 1959 ~ July 26, 2022 (age 62) 62 Years Old

Tribute

Lucy Ann (DeWitt) Early, age 62, of Naples, FL, passed away on July 26, 2022, in Naples.

Lucy was born to Charles and Barbara DeWitt on October 27, 1959, in Detroit, MI. She was the youngest of the six children. Lucy grew up in Detroit, together with her five older brothers.

Lucy attended Bishop Borgess High School and Central Michigan University. She first went to work as a Court Stenographer, but later transitioned into Real Estate Sales.

In 1975, when Lucy was in high school, Rosie introduced her brother, Tom, to Lucy. After a long distance “pen pal” relationship, on September 11, 1982, Lucy and Tom married. They bought a home in Union Lake, Michigan. Not surprisingly, Lucy’s Mom (“Barb”) lived down the street. Lucy and Barb were truly “best friends”. Tom was initially employed by Hewlett Packard, but later joined Lucy in Real Estate Sales. Together, they ran a very successful real estate business in Union Lake. Of all of Lucy’s accomplishments, she treasured most her 40 years of marriage to Tom. They were truly inseparable.

At age 29, Lucy was diagnosed with aggressive ovarian cancer. Though not expected to survive more than a few months, Lucy refused to go quietly and battled cancer on and off for 33 years. While she had great doctors, it was only because of her positive attitude, her incredible will to live a full life, and Tom’s never ending support and encouragement that she was able to prevail over the disease. In many ways, Lucy’s survival was a decades long miracle.

Throughout her life, Lucy enjoyed interacting with family and friends, first at their lake house on Union Lake, and later at Fidler’s Creek in Naples where they moved in 2019. Lucy loved a good party. She had a wonderful, and infectious, sense of humor. She enjoyed making people laugh and happy. You always knew that if Lucy was going to be there, you were going to have fun. She had an impish smile on her face most of the time. Of all the Holidays, Lucy loved Christmas the most.

Lucy is survived by four of her brothers, Charley (Corky), John, Doug, and Tom (Bobbie), her in-laws, Joe (Sue) and John, Rosie (Cathal), Kate (Gary), and Christine. Lucy was pre deceased by her brother, Mike (Diane), and her sisters-in-law Mary (Bob), Debbie and Nancy (John).

Lucy will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends in Michigan and Florida.
