Maria Guadalupe Mercado

Our loving Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Mercado (Maiden name: Sanchez), 67, died on May 26, 2021. She was born on April 11, 1954 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to parents Jose Sanchez and Santos Campos. Maria immigrated to the United States in 1964 at the age of ten. She grew up in Elgin, Illinois where she met the love of her life, her husband, Abram Mercado III while working in a factory together. They married in 1974 and would have celebrated 47 years of marriage this June. Shortly after marrying, they moved to Naples, Florida. Maria became a citizen of the United States in 1986. She enjoyed shopping, bowling, dancing, going to the casino, and playing lotería. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She had a contagious laugh and despite her hardships of being wheelchair bound, she always had a positive outlook in life. She is survived by her husband, Abram Mercado and her brothers and sisters; Omar, Mario, Jose, Miguel, Jaime, Hilda and Blanca. She had 18 nieces and nephews. Although she had no children of her own, Maria was godmother to Liset, Ray, Adriana, Christina, Jesse, Jimmy, Crystal, Adrian, Andrea, Aria and many more.
A viewing for Maria will be held at Fuller Funeral Home East Naples on Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 5-8PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Rd, Naples, FL 34113.
