Michael George D’Amico - “George”, age 87, of Naples, Florida and previously from Cleveland Ohio passed away on January 7, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Born on October 10, 1935, in Grafton, Ohio he was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Filomena; brothers, Ralph(Wanda) and Harold(Bert), and son-in-law, Roy Sankovic.

Survived by his wife of 69 years, Shirley; children, Phyllis(Ed) Planisek, Mike, Georgia(Roy d) Sankovic, and Jim(Stephanie).  7 grandchildren, Kate Planisek, Eddie Planisek, Kristyn(Dustin) Dixon, Stephanie Sankovic (Rob Browning), Jessie(Michael) Tompkins, Jimmy(Aspen) D’Amico and Jacob Miller, 4 great grandchildren, Neveah Dixon, Amelia Planisek, Savannah Dixon and Valerie Tompkins. Numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Throughout his 87 years, George always enjoyed time with family and friends. He spent the most recent 29 years in Florida enjoying golf, cards and social activities at Foxfire Country Club with his wife Shirley. An avid golfer, he hit 2 holes-in-one during his lifetime! George was always interested in knowing about others and sharing stories. In particular, he relished creating memories with Shirley for over 72 years.  A couple of the most enjoyable were taking his entire family on cruises in celebration of anniversaries.

He enjoyed a successful career in the paint and coatings industry for over 50 years. He retired as Senior Vice President from Aexcel Corporation in 2000. He was always very active in the community serving 2 terms as President of the Cleveland Paint & Coatings Association, along with various other organizations.  He was often known as the “go to guy” in his community helping friends and neighbors with various needs and projects.  

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, January 16th at 9:45 am at St Peter’s Catholic Church,  5130 Rattlesnake Hammock Rd, Naples, FL 34113 where George was a parishioner.  Following Mass, a celebration of life will be held at Foxfire Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please share George’s giving spirit by donating to a charity close to your heart in his name.
