Yolanda McDermott passed away on November 19, 2022, on her 97th birthday, quickly and peacefully, with her son and daughter by her side.
Yolanda was born in Union City, New Jersey on November 19, 1925, to Pasquale and Angela Portfolio. She was the youngest of eleven children and enjoyed spending time in both New Jersey and Connecticut during her childhood. Yolanda attended Berkeley Business School before becoming an Executive Secretary, working on the Chrysler account, for McCann Erickson Advertising Agency in New York City. She and her husband, Edward, were married in 1951, and although she loved her work, eventually left in order to start a family. Always having a passion for Florida, the family moved to Naples in 1977.
Yolanda lived in the Lakewood community since 1979 and truly loved swimming at the pool and socializing with the other members of the Club. She was also a devoted member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. Yolanda cherished living in Naples with the warm sun and her family, yet would not hesitate to travel by car to see her northern relatives. She appreciated her life, always acknowledging how lucky she was to live well into her 90’s. She will be remembered by those who knew her to be the life of the party, never sitting still when music was playing, and bringing a smile to everyone who was in her presence.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, four brothers, and husband, Edward, of 51 years. She is survived by her son, Craig McDermott, grandson Kyle, granddaughter Shannon, daughter Leslye (Robert) Dyke, many nieces and nephews, and her granddog, Lewie.
A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, 4735 Tamiami Trail East, Naples, FL 34112.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, December 1 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with a burial to follow at Palm Royale Cemetery in Naples, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Yolanda’s name to VITAS Healthcare or Alzheimer’s Support Network.
